The hours are based .a a six-dav working week of 71 liours •adi, witli half an liour for the Jiinclieoii Jreak not being recognised as working time. Women memliers of the Force are induded." Their iucfease aniounts to.£2»5 yearly. An incroase in Ihe clothing allow ance of oue sliilling a day is also reommended. Xlarried constables will, on joiniug Ihe Force, receive £4(1(5 yearlv. At the end of three years' service it will be increased to £197, at nine years to 15515, at fourteeu years to' £525 and at hventy years to £545. On promotion to Jergeant the pay will be increased to £579. Two years later it- will be in--reased to £592 and four years later to £(510. A senior sergeant' will receive £(547. The Police Association had previously agreed tliat it was not practicable, in view of the present shortage of men, to introduee the forty-hour week but it has agreed in the interiin for pay in excess of forty hours to be paid as overtime. The general feeling among the men is that the Government has met the position generously. The- majority would prefer the forty-hour week but a number also welconie the extra remuneration. There has been a general improvement in Police Force conditions and pay during the past few nionths, particularly as regards jrromotion.
