. Mrs. Bessie Anderson, a wellknown radio personality, is at present in Levin, and is staying with Mrs. J. Perigo. A London cable announces- that i Rear-Admiral W. E. Parry is to succeed Rear-Admiral E. G. N. J Rushbrooke in September as Director of Naval Intelligence. At the weekly practice of the Levin Municipal Band on Monday j evening, feeling reference was made iby the conductor, Mr. G. R. Lester, to the passing of Bandsman D. H. ! Weaver, who was a member of .many years' standing. As a mark of respect to his memory, members 'stood in silence for a short time, and concluded the practice with i the playing of hymns. I Formerly Professor of Economics ! at Auckland University College, Professor H. Belshaw has been _ appointed to the Chair of Agricul- ! tural Economics at the- tJniversity ; of Davis College, California. He has ' also been appointed economist to ! the Giann'ini Foundation of the , University and economist to its experiment stati'on. Professor Belshaw 'resigned from the Auckland University College in February, 1945, and since then has been inter- | national research secretary for the ' Institute of Pacific Relations in New 1 York* '
