WOMENS DIVISION
SHANNON BRANCH GATIIERS A cheery gathering of Shannon W.D.F.U. members met at Mrs. L. H. Best's residence, Kixigstone Road, on Tuesday last to discuss the holding of a flower show. Mrs. C. Guerin presided and those able to be present were: — Mesdames K. Thomson (secretary), L. H. Best, C. H. Speirs, W. H. Roberts, A. R. Mills, J. Stevens, U. Dujaney, C. Stern, R. H. Charter, E. Chester, J. A. Easton, W. H. Smith, F. J. Grey, Misses Grace Smith and N. Easton. After a lengthy discussion it was tentatively decided that Saturday, September 28 was the most sqifable date for holding the show. Mrs. C. Guerin was appointed convener and Mrs. K. Thomson secretary, with Mrs. F. A. Grey and Mr, V. Guerin as assistants to the secretary. The previous schedule was pcrused and a few deletions made, mostly in the vcgetablc scction. It was thought that as vegetables were scarce in September a "best collection"' would cover them. Many more interesting classes were added, especially in the cooking, sewing and knitting sections. Special provision was made for children up to 15 years, making the schedule considcrably more interesting, and a decided improvement on those of previous shows. Promises of prizes were received and stewards and assistants appointed. On aceount of so many making the trip to Wellington for the conference and W.D.F.U. 21st birthday celebrations it was decided to. hold the july meeting on Monday, July 8. Bounteous hospitality was tendered the gathering by Mrs. Best, the afternoon concluding with the serving of afternoon tea in the drawing room, made cheery with a log fire and flowers.
