NAPIER, July 1. Huge waves pounding the foreshore at high tide lastevening and again this morning undermined buildings connected with the Napier abattoirs and one house, and also washed away a large portion of the garden of a second house, taking a ten-foot high hedge and l'ence. The occupants of both houses spent an uncoinfortable night, successive waves lapping ronnd the houses. One particularly lieavy, wave smaslied in tlie front door of one house, the water gushing; through and pouring ouf Ihe back 4oo'r. One-, house has been temporarily abandoned, tlie condition being such that further heavy seas toniglit miglit nmke it a total loss. A portion of the main south road ncar hlaraenui is under three feet of water eaeh high tide.
