HIGH WINDS IN TARANAKI.

NEW PLYMOUTH, June 30. Damage was done in many parts oi Taranaki by a strong southerly wind that swept the province throughout the weelcend. Electrie power failures were general throughout the district but they were mostly of a minor nature caused by trees brought down on Jihes or brushing against them. Many interruptions were caused to telephone oervices. The R.N.Z.A.F. passenger aircraft services to and from Auckland and Wellington were eancelled yesterday. The Union Company's vessel, Karitane, scheduled to leave New Plymouth yesterday for Wellington, was forced to remain in port over the weelcend. A sbarp fall in temperatures on Saturday afternoon was accompanied by a fall of sleet at New Plymouth.
