FAREWELL FUNCTION
MRS. MeSWEENY HONOURED A large number of members and friends of the Otaki Women's Institute gathered at the Angliean Hall, Otaki, last Thursday to farewell Mrs. McSweeny, a very popular and valued member who leaves shortly to reside at Maharahara, Dannevirke. A pleasing programme" ' of vocal and elocutionary items, interspersed with competitions, was greatly enjoyed by all. Items were contributed by Mrs. Ashwin (songs) , Miss Rosa Mills (elocutionary items) and Mrs. Harrington (monologue and recitation) . After tea had been served, the president (Mrs. Lumley) took the opportunity to express appreciation of Mrs. McSweeney's services as a eommittee member and press reporter, and, on behalf of all members, presented her with a small gift. Mrs. McSweeny replied suitably. Members then sang "For She's a Jolly Good Fellow," and the afternoon came to a' close. Competition winners wer-e: — mime, Mrs. Walter Taylor; poetic proverbs, Miss R. Mills; pinning the donkey's tail on, Mrs. Barron.
