OAMARU, June 27. The heaviest earthquake ex> perienced in Oamaru for many years occurred at 12.35 a.m, to-r day. The direction of the 'quakfi was east to west, and -its intensity was sufficiently violent to sway suspended objects, aud tp shake dwellings. The tremors, two of which were yery pronounced, lasted for about .a . minute, Although many people were alarmed by the occurrepce, np damage has been reported, WELLINGTON, June 27. - An earthquake reported from South Island towns was felt in Wellington at 12.35 a.m. to-day. The Dominion Obseryatory re-ports-that vibrations were recorjed for an hour, and the centre was apparently (300 miles from Wellington.
