LEVIN TRAMPING CLUB

MEMBERS' JUNE MEETING The monthly meeting of the Levin — ^Waiopehu Tramping Ciub on Tuesday evening was attended by thirty-eight members, The president (Mr. N. M. Thomson)"* occupied the chair. A further eight new members were nominated and elected, bringing the total to 66. The opinion was expressed that this was probably a record since the "club was started in 1927. A letter was read from the Tararua Tramping Club advising tbat it had tentatively included in its schedule a combined clubs' outing at Waitohu Stream on the week-end of February 22-23, and asked for the club's views. The chairman commented that these were spiendid outings, bringing from 150 to 200 trampers of various clubs together. It was desired to indicate to the Tararua 'Club that the club would be pleased to attend. Donation of £1 ls'each from the club patron (Mr. G. L. Adkin) and Mr. A. L. Edwards towards the new Waiopehu Hut were notified, and a motion of thanks was passed to them.. The social committee intim-" ated that it was holding a dance in che Druids' Hall on July 3 to augment this fund. A lengthy discussion ensued on the form of construction which .-.hould- be used- in the new hut when the time arrived to proceed with •.he work, and also as to its size. It was eventually decided that a subcommittee be set up to go into the questions of. materials - and costs, and report to the next meeting. It was suggested as a guide that the new hut be 30ft. x I6ft., whii a 7ft. stud, with a wooden sleeping platform along the whole length of one wall. The likelihood of salvaging come material frorfr th old hut was mentioned. A sub-committee consisting of the foll(fwihg was set, up: Messrs. P. Stannard, W. H. Ransom, J. G. Parsons, N. Ferguson, R. R. D. Rolston, A. Galpin, J. Harvey and L. Rolston. The following fixtures were drawn up: June 30, Waiopehu track working party; cars leave post office 8 a.m. and 8.30 a.m. ; leaders, Messrs. N. M. Thomson aha D. Jchnson. July 7, Pukehou and Forest Lakes; cars leave post oTfice 8.30 a.m. ; leader, Mr. W. H. Ranscm. Supper dispensed by the ladies concluded the meeting.
