SAVING BUTTER AND MEAT FOR BRITAIN

-Ptess Aosociation

By Telegraph-

WELLINGTON, June 25. The following table gives the total number of meat and butter ration coupons saved in each of the 20 chief postai districts in the past week, the list being giveu in order of merit based on a population basis: —

Nelson won the pennant for the week with the sinai lest possible margin separating Gisborne, iast week's Avinner, and Masterton in second and . third place respectively. Oamaru and Napier both recorded a great imprbveinent to be next. Whangarei responded excellentiy and rose from 17th to 9th, while New Plymouth contributed to the week's deciine in figures with a very considerable failing off. These fluctuations, however, the Famine Emergencv llelief Committee states, are not unusual as di-stricts make their effort very intensive in certain weeks. In a statement tonight, the Committee pointed out that the winning districts wero saving betwoen two and alialf and three coupons a week por houscbold. Great coneern is felt at the lack of response from the large districts of Wellington and Auckland. Wellington figures for this week are an all timo "low" and represent a saving of one coupon a week for everv five households. Auckland figures for the week are one coupon saved in every four households.
