Members of the New Zealaild Army Kugby L'nion team whicli Won 29 of 33 matches played in Britain and Europc, passed ;tlirough Melbournc today aboard the Moreton Bay. The ship is carrying 245 returning New Zealand serviceinen and. war bridcs from Britain. The liugby team was piekcd. by General Freyberg from the New Zealand Expeditionary Force in Italy last year. After two months' training tliey iverc matched against some of the best teains in 'Europe. Tliey played matches in Scotland in -.six inclies of snow, at Manchester in two inches of lvater, and at othcr places on parade ground's. Their tuanager said th'ey were thc equal of any All BlaeL team that has evcr left New Zealand. Little Rugby is played in Victoria but Mr. J. A. Malcolm, New Zealand Government representative ^in Melbournc, who is also vice-prcsident of the Yictorian. Kugby Uniou Associa- j tion and who met the teanq said if Victorians eould see these boys in action the Kugby Union wouid have a much greater followjng in Yictoria. There will be no sucli opportunity as the ship is-staying oiily oue day.
