Tliat lie profcrred slang to jar^on was adniitted by Professor Walter Murdocli, Chancellor of Perth Univcrsity, at a univcrsity dinner, when he protested against a spealter's use of the word ' ' personnel. ' ' "An ofiicial recently asked me for mv 'ceiling requirements in personnel,' instead of the niaxinium number of men aud women I warited," lie added. "In the language of today you do not go to see a person, but to contaet him. "If, as a publie speaker, I were forced to ehoose between two salutatior 3 as male and female personnel and guvs, dames, blokes and sheilas, I would select the latter. I prefer slang to jargon. "
