— Received Mondav, 7 p.m. NEW YORK, June 23. A moderately severe ' ' sway type ' ' of earthquake roclced western Washingtop and British Columbia, lasting from 30 to 90 seeonds. Vancopver business buildings, hotels and flats swayed for 30 se.conds, startl^ng residents. Cracks .appeared in several jarge Yancouver buildings but othervvise there was little damage. The earthquake took a heavv toll of Courtenay, a lumber centre on Vancouv.er Jsland, where walls eollapsed, failing into the streets. The epicentre was altout 2.5 mjles frojn Yictorig. Buildings at Povt Albern; wero daniaged and some families have been forced to leave their homes.
