Tojo Betrayed His Fpreign Minister NEWSPAPERMAN'S EVIDENCE

Received Tuesday, 11 a.m. TOKIO, June 24. ' A Japanese 4 newspaperman, Tomin Suzuki, giving evidence before the War Crimes Tribunal, declared that General Tojo, Prfme Minister of Japan at the time when sjie att,acke.d Pearl Harb.our, had. betrayed his own Foreign Minister, Mr. Togo, when he plunged Japan into war against the United' Stkares. Tojo, less than two months before the attack on Pearl Harb.our, promi§ed Togo that he would support a policy of peaceful sefctletnent of differences with the Unjted States. Witness said he was surprfsed to see Togo enter a militaristic cabinet for he always believed him to be an exponent of peace. Conse.quently he interviewed Togo, 'who told him that he became Foreign Minister only because Tqjo had assured him that he wanted peace. "Togo was thoroughly convinced that Tojo would not betray him," tlie witness added.
