DEMAND FOR INDEPENDENCE OF PALESTINE
ARAB REQUEST TO BRITAIN Received Monday, 11 a.m, CAIRO, June 23. The Arab League is to.demand Palestine's independence from Britain stated the Secre-tary-General, Azzam Pasha. The League had sent a memorandum to Britain requesting negotiations, but so far without reply. If the negotiations failecl the League would place the case before the United Nations. If the negotiations succeed a plan would be submitted to the United Nations. The case would rest on the United Nations charter. The structure of an independent Government had yet to be worked out. Azzum Pasha said he dicl not know how the Mufti's presence would effect a settlement of Palestine questions. He had h.earcl nothing .to substantiate the possibility that Jewish terrorists would attempt a coup d'etat, although Syria had heard persistant street.rumourg that they planned to cut Palestine's communications. It was Britain's job, not the League's, to keep order. Azzam Pash added that he personally favoured the openng of relations with the Yatican, but no steps had been caken yet.
