Hight (Christ- | cliureh ), Sir Thomas Hunter (Welling- ] ton), Dr. J. H. Murdoch (Auckland), j JMiss E. E. Stcphens (Palmerston Nortli), and Dr. E. Winterbourn (Christchurch). Mr. E. Partridge (Dunedin) Avas appointed to the eouncil by the Govefnor-General on the recommenda.tjon of.. thc .Miniskqr ,of NdPTAj tion (Mr. Mason). Wlien the new couucil niet in Wellington, Sir Thomas Hunter was elected chairman, Dr. J. Hight deputy-chair-man, Professor Bailey treasurer, and Miss Stcqiheus a meinber of the exeeutivc committee. The (rouncil revieived the jiolicies and Avork of the orgunisation and considered the applications for research grants. Among the projeets approved Avas an investigation into the elfect of consolidutioil of schools, a subject on which there has recently been a good deal of Xiublic discussion.
