BILLIARDS AND SNOOKER
McCONACHY AT SHANNON Last Tuesday evening was a "night oue" for Shannon billiard •and snooker enthusiasts. Clark McConachy, the New Zealand champion professional cueist, gave an interesting exhibition of his prowess at the rooms of Mr. Bob Vinsen. There was a large attendance of spectators who were held spellbound by his masterly control of the balls. His game of billiards was against Mr. Ivan Hemmingsen, a Shannon player of repute, who wa's given a start of 600 in 1000 up. McConachy opened up the game by pulling in ofl spot, and running up a useful break off the red. His prowess at losing hazards was fully demonstrated, and mashie shots drew appiause 011 many occasions. His object was not to run up big breaks, but to demonstrate all round billiards. At 25 visits to the table he ran out the game with his breaks averaging 40, his largest being 290. Hemmingsen, who was ob.viously nervous, was 726 at the end of the game. The four games of snooker were played with Messrs. K. Batt, H. Curran, A'. Bently (Shannon) and Jolly (Palmerston North), who all had six blacks 011. Here again all players a Dpeared nervous. Nevertheless, three of them won their games, Bentley being the only loser. , McConachy again broke up the balls 011 all occasions, and gave a great ■ '6'Xhi'bition ,"df "'potting and safety play. Half an hour of trick shots was indulged in by Mr. McConachy, which brought an instructive evening to a close.
