HOROWHENUA DISTRICT COUNGIL'S JUNE MEETING The monthly meeting of the Horowhenua County Council was held in Levin on Friday. Mr. G. A. Monk was in the chair and also present were Crs. J. A. Aitchison, J. H P. Ligefins, A. M. Colquhoun, A. J . Gimblett, D. K. Guy, R. W. Jenkins, W. Taylor and A. M. Atkins. Also Messrs F. H. Hudson (cierk), and W. H. Fraser (acting-engineer). A letter was received from the New Zealand Counties' Association, informing the council that the counties conference, which was to be held in July, had been postponed until the report on local bodies had been considered by Parliament. The Kuku-Manakau Co-op. Dairy Co., Ltd., wrote to inform the council that it was to establish a pig farm on the Ohau West Road. It therefore made application to install a pipe line from the factory co convey butter-milk to the farm. The matter was referred to Cr. Colquhoun and the acting-engineer. The Waikanae Beach Progressive and Ratepayers' Association wrote requesting that the council act in Ihe piatter of the provision of sanitary conveniences at Waimeha Beach. Mr. Monk proposed that | the council confer with the health inspector (Mr. W. J. Guinan), and Ithafc a committee consisting of Cr, j Jenkins and himself be authorised | to confer further with the associaition in regard to the provision of small conveniences of a temporary nature. , .
,Th& Tararua Trampmg ciud, m a fetter, requested that attention be given the Otaki Gorge Road, which provided access to the Tararuas for ski and tramping clubs, and stalkers and fishermen. Bush had grown over the road to such an extent that it was difficult to take cars and trucks through. The club offered to provide a working bee to do the work. Cr. Jenkins said that complaints had been made by the settlers in the district. The matter was referred to the acting-engineer for action. A lefcter from the Minister of Works in regard to the scheme of development and reconstruction was received. The monthly report of the actingengineer (Mr. W. H. Fraser) was received. The Manawatu Catchment Board wrote in regard to a conference to be convened early in July to consider a scheme of control for the lower Manawatu River. The Board requested that the council send delegates. Messrs Colquhoun, Gimblett and Guy were appointed.
