MR. BREMNER IS RE-ELECTED PRESIDENT Mr. P. Bremner (president) was in the ckair at tiie annual meeting of the Ayrshire Cattle Breeders' Association of New Zealand, which was held in Palmerston North on Thursday. ■ Tliere was a large attendance and tlie president, in his opening address, meutioned that members were present from the North Cape to the Bluff. The balance sheet indicated another record year and that the accuniulatod fund had iuercased to approxiinately £8000; also that £430 9s Od had been expondod in prizc moncy and subsidios compared with £93 5s 6d the previous year. Following arc extracts from the report: — ' ' Viewing with alarm the serious food shortagc in Europe, we must as primary producers redouble our efforts and do our utmost to relieve this unhappy position in the coining years. Cliven a reasonable chance our Ayshire cows will play their part as no bread can excel tliein in converting their food economically into produce over a lengtliy period under our varying conditions. This has been clearly dem'onstrated during the dry season we have cxperienccd. ' ' The closing year has proved another very successful onc in tlie affairs of our association. Never has the Ayrshire been more popular, the long list of new breeders testifying to tlie ever-growing esteem in which our breed is held. ' ' Among the liighlights of the saies season was the distinetion gained by an Ayrshire bull in creating a Southern Hemisphere price record for all dairy breeds, at Mr. J. G. Donald's annual sale. The averagc price obtained at the same fixture also was a New Zealand record. "During the year some of our enterprising members made some notable importations of bulls from Canada and | Seotland. Webb j (Levin); treasurer, Mr. F. Mills j (Hawera). I Four members were roquired for tlie council. Tliere were seven noniiuations and Messrs. W. Outes (Matamata) C. 18. C. Webb, D. M. Thompson (Waiuku) and W. G. Wallace (Cambridge) were elected. f8pecial mehtion was made of the long service Mr. John Parlane, of Christchurcli, liad, as a member of the council, giveu the breed. The association 's appreciation of Mr. Parlane 's services is to be placed on record. The meeting considered tlie recommendation from tlie council concerning now rules and decided to put it into offect. The secretary (Mr. B. McCay) then put forward tlie council's recommendation for wards which ' would give representatiou as follows: — Auckland l'membcr, Waikato 3, Bay of Plenty 1, Taranaki 2, Wellington- West Coast 1, Wairarapa 1, 88ou t li Island 3. Mr. Webb movcd and Mr. Aldridge (Pukekohe) seconded an amendnient that the wards, each with oue member, should be North Auckland, J8outh Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Thames Valley, North and boutn Taranaki, Wellington East Coast, Wellington West Coast, and three for the 18outli Island. Tliere was a long discussiou and it was linally decided that as members required further delinite infonuution concerning boundaries the council should again review the matter in the liglit of the discussiou and that tne council should liave power to rcacu limility.
