WHEEL FLIES OFF TRUCK OF SPEEDING TRAIN

AUCKLAND, June 14. Tliree trucks and the guurd's van of Ihe fast soutlibound goods express were derailed to Otorohanga at 4 o 'eloek this afternoon. The train, whicli was travelling at speed and was not iutended to stop at Otorohanga, was approachiug tlie station when a passer-by noticed a wlieel fly off oue of the trucks. Tliere was tlien a grinding roar and the last three trucks and guard's van left tlie liue. Oue truck fell completely over while the remaindcr stood upriglit at rakish angles before becoming discounected from tlie train. Oue of tlie trucks smashed into a'nd wrecked a water tank at the side of the line. The reuiainder of tlie train rau on for a feu hundred yards and was pulled up jusi soulh of Otorohanga station. The guard of the train was travelling iu the va,n. He sufCcred a severe sliaking but soon recovered. Ko oue was iujured. As otlier yard lines were available, no serious dislocation of the Main Trunk ^ailway services resulted. Scveral througli traius went through Otoro hanga after the derailment by using u loop. *
