WELLINGTON, Juiia 15. Steps are being taken to resumc the New Zealand Defehce League. It was founded in 1936 to stimulatc public interest in national defencc and strongly advocated tne re introduction Of compvlsory military training. A strenuous campaign was condncted, tne principle speak ers being General Sir , Andrew Rus sell, Sir William Perry and Major General BarroWclough. The leagu. cafried on its educational woi'k until the war began' and conscrip tion was adopted. In view of the present state o. the world, it is felt that New Zea land can fulfil her obligations ti the United Nations and provide otu defence only by having adequat'. defence forces, and the league wil. advotate compulsory training fot the three Services. It is emphasiseci that the league is strictly nonparty.
