The Mayor of New York, Mr. O'Dwyer, expressed astonishnient at Mr. Bevin 's remarks and declared the city was i prdtul of its Jewish people who had 1 made great contributicms to the city's life and culture. | Dr. Joseph Tenenitottm, president of j the American Federation of Polislij Jews, charged Britain with .hackingi much of the undergronnd terror that { was taking the lives of Jews in Polandj at a terrific rate and asserted that the inipression he gained in Europe wasi that Britain was the problem cliild of the world and a barrier to peace. The Socialist Party's national action committee condemncd Mr. Bevin and said European Jews had hecome a football in the game of international pov/er policies.
