RIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS - The fourteenth birthday celebrations of the Koputaroa Women's Institute were held on June 3, when members spent a most enjoyable afternoon together. Proceedings began with the singing of the institute song, and a welcome to members and visitors by Mrs. Koberstein, the president. An apology for absence was received from the secretary. A play entitled "Quits," with the scene set in a hat shop, was thoroughly enjoyed by all present. The cast was Mrs. Ba.ker as "Nora," Mrs. Stratton as "Her Aunt," and Misses Fitzgerald and Koberstein as "Two Attractive •Ci-T.v-vt-i' A ooi cf.cSnt.Q "
After tea had been served, the birthday cake was produced, and members of visiting institutes were invited to light candles. The president of the Levin W.I., Mrs. Kellaway lit the candles and Mrs. Blake cut the cake. Flowers were presented to 'the president and actiirjpresident by the visitors. Items were given by Mesdames Lancaster and Stratton (songs), and Miss Yvonne Schultz (vocal and instrumental) . Winners of c'ompetitions were — Wool competition, Mesdames Netten, Baker, Stratton, Simpson and McLaUghlin. Drawing: Mrs. Guy and Miss Yvonne Schultz. Flowers: Mrs. S. Kilsby. Shrub brooch: Mrs. S. Kilsby. Junior flower: Miss Joyce McLaughlin. Shortly before the conclusion of the party, Lorry Sanson, accompanied by Miss Schultz, sang "My Dreams are Getting Better all the Time." The afternoon was brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem.
