RACE STAFF WORKS WELL

LEVIN MEETING AT OTAKI Fine weather, good acceptances and a large attendance favoured ihe Levin Racing Club's meeting at Otaki on Saturday. As a result the Levin R.S.A.'s memorial hall fund, to which the proceeds were being devoted, should benefit very sub^stantially. The club is deserving of very great commendation for its , generous assistance in this worthy project. The Otaki Maori Club's gesture in making the course available was also most helpful. The proceedings ran smoothly from start to finish. The arrangements were in the capable hands of j the newly-appointed secretary (Mr. ! R. G. Romans) , who ably carried out his multifarious duties, assisti ed by the past secretary (Mr. F. Nicholson), whose work is widely and favourably known. The course, | thanks to Mr. Albert Mita, of Otaki, | was in tip top order, while the ! booth and other amenities were ! vtell managed. Members of the ! Levin R.S.A. carried out the staff | duties, and the way in which they * i were handled left nothing to be | desired. i The programme was well sup1 ported by Levin and Otaki owners j and trainers, and proved that this ; district is an ideal training centre. The E1 Alamein Handicap, the main race of the day, was vvon in convincing style by Miss Delaware, who j is trained by Mr. 'Whata Hakaraia. During the day the owners and trainers of the Otaki area took the opportunity of saying farewell to j Mr. H. Coyle, who is retiring from handicapping after 25 years, during J which time he has not missed a meeting, and of expressing their appreciation of his services -to racing. Wishing him every happiness in his retirement, Mr. E. Gouiden asked Mr. Coyle to accept a wallet from his many friends.
