AUCKLAND, June 6. A ao-ldier was "killed and anotlier was J seriouslv injnred when a liand grenade j exjiloded in a trencli in which they were atandihg af tlie Ardmore rifle range | this afternoon. They were: — • j Killed: Tpr. Albert Ilenry Thomas j Draper, aged 22, single, second son ot | Mr. and Mrs. R. Draper, ot' Zealandia I Street, Whangarei. Injured: Cpl. George Anderson, aged 20, single, son of JMr. and Mrs. Joseph Anderson, of Pukehina, R.M.D., Tepuke. .A party of men from the J-Foree, of which Draiier aml Anderson were members, were at the rifle range during the afternoon for liand gronade praetice and the two nu*u were in the priming bay or trench. A grenade tlnown from the throwing bay nearby accidentaPv | landed in tlie priming bay and exploded near the two men. Two military doetorsj from Papakura Military camp attended I the injured soldiers, but Drape'r died ' from his injuries while he was being taken to the camp hospital which was about four miles from the scene of the accident. Cpl. Anderson who, was injured m 1 the arms, baclc and right foot, was | taken to the camp hospital and later removed to tlie Auckland hospital.
