"We have had 17,UUU visnors ro i Waitangi during the last 12 j months," said Mr. Vernon Reed, honorary secretary, in answer to a question, "and every visitor, either jin parties or individual'ly, was coniducted through the historical and Maori sections and had all.matters j of interest explained. This innovaTion has created a noticeable desire for knowledge of New Zealand hisitory, especially of the period in which we specialise, that is, from early tirnes to -just after 1840. The popularity of the explanatory lectures has been shown in the large increase of visitors during the " las{ two years. From a few thousand visitors annually we were accustomed to receive, the numbers have now risen to double the pre-war figures."
