LADIES' TOURNAMENT

On June 3, the Ladies' Section of the Levin Golf Club conducted a one-day tournament, the first to beheld since the beginning of the war. It was very successful, being attended by the majority of loc'al players, as well as a large number of visitors from Palmerston North, Otaki and Feilding. The weather was good in the morning, but in the afternoon there was a cold souther]y wind, with occasional showers. A riine hole medal round was played in the morning, the winner being Mrs. Franklin, who returned a card of 32 nett. Miss Anderson of Hokowhitu was runner-up wiui 33 nett. An early start was made with the afternoon match which was a fourball best-ball bogey competition. The score of one up was returned by Mrs. Hastedt and Miss" Hosie, resulting in a win for these two players, Mrs. Franklin and Miss

Anderson were runners-up, being all. square with bogey. The approach and putt competition run during the day was won on the draw by Miss Lea, of Otaki. A competition was arranged for the C grade players, Mrs. Coutie and Miss Chapman-Cohen tying for first place with equal nett scores, the former player winning on the draw. At the conclusion of the day's play Mrs. Frederikson, the Levin Ladies' captain, thanked the visitors for their attendance in such large numbers, thereby contributing much to the success of the tournament. She expressed appreciation of the work done by members of the men's section in preparing the links for the day's play, a.nd their assistance with the afternoon tea arrangements. The vicepresident (Mrs. Hastedt) then presented the trophies to the winning players. Mrs. Cliff, of Hokowhitu, returned thanks on behalf of the visiting players for the most enjoyable day spent on the Levin links, which she stated were at present in better condition than' theirs. It is hoped that the tournament will become an annual fixture, in view of the fact of its decided popularity. The draw for this week's bogey match, , which .is the first round of the captain's trophy, is as follows: Mesdames Blaek and Keenan, .Miss Herrick and Mrs. McClune, Mesdames Hastedt and Lynch, Mesdames Franklin and Frederikson, Mesdames Ryder and Hunter, Mesdames Clark and Walker, Mesdames Richards and G. Wilson, Mesdames Denton and M. Wilson and Mrs. Cameron and Miss P Wilson. To play at the weekend: Miss Hosie and Mrs. Alexander and Mesdames Porter and Standen. The draw for the C grade competition for next Saturday, June 3, is as follows: Mrs. Bull and Miss Chapman-Cohen, Mesdames Coutie and Brown, Mesdames Wilson - Grant and Reakes, Misses Coleman and Leddra, Misses Evison and L. Franklin and Missos Bcvnn and Kilsby.
