FOOD FOR BRITAIN
WELLINGTON, June 4. Following are the iigures for butter aud meat coupons. saved in the 20 main postal distficts for the past week, the list being given in order of merit calculated on a nooulation basis:
Nelson- district has established a great record by winning again the penuant for the leading district. In eight weeks Nelson had three flrsts and three Giirds. Masterton, second this week, XAron last week. Gisborne was again consistent. Christchurch easily leads the cities but a big ett'ort is required in Wellington and Auckland to mahitahi the nionientum of the prescnt drive. The national committee is niaking a special appeal to those two great districts. As Avas expected with the long holiday weekend, the figures sIioav a decline on the previous week but -some smaller districts made a notable improvenient. The national committee cominents that the general onset of winter weather will cause a greater call on energy producing foods but an urgent appeal is made to all to heed the call for real sacrilice. Again the empliasis is plaeed on wider angles of the present eampaign — the saving of fats, avoidance of waste and increased production.
