MILK SHORTAGE AVERTED
f AUCKLAND, June 3. , • Tlio sliortage of milk in Auckland lias 1 bceu avertcd tlils week as a result of 1 farmors at Matangi, in the Waikato, agreeing to tlieir supplics being divertcd from the local condensed milk and cheese faetory to fulfil the needs of the city. Ilad these supplicrs not risen to tlio occasion, the Auckland Metropolitan Milk Board, which had estimated a deficiency of 1200 gallons daily, would probably have resorted to a mild toi in of ratiomng. Arrangements for i tlio milk from Matangi to be made ( ava.tla.ble to the city, were made by the | Diiectors of the Kew Zealaud Cooper- ; ative Dairy Co., Ltd. It will augment j tlic supp'ly being drawn from other auxiiiary sources and will possibly elirn- ■ iuate any need for rationing for the ; rest of the season. In spite of the seri icus decline iu production due to the | prolouged summer drought, a seasonal j increase in supply is expected to begin i in about three weeks time. Matangi j snpjilicrs will receive the same price for i their milk as they obtained at the | cheese faetory. It is being transpoi'ted to the city by lorry.
