MAORI-PAKEHA GAME DRAWN

EVEN MATCH WITH NO SCORE Like most drawn matches. the Maori-Pakeha game played at Shannon yesterday, was. most uninteresting from the spectators' point of view. Both paeks of forwards were evenly matched and each received their share of the ball from the set scrums and line-outs. The backs, when they received the ball, lacked combination. However, this can be understood, as yesterday was probably the first occasion that the teams had played together as a combination. The teams were as follows: — Maori: Ropata, Seymour, Warren, Sciascia, Cook, Hakaraia, Johnson, Hakaraia, Nichol, Heperi, Waka, Phillips, Taylor, Winiata and Raihi. Pakeha: Pedersen, Aitchison, Mortimer, Gordon, Henderson, Galloway, Blenkhorn, Chester, Corbishley, O'Donnell, Roy Robertson, Ray Robertson, McCashan, Pratt and Miles. From the opening whistle play proceeded into Maori territory and remained there for several minutes. From an infringement in a scrum on the Maoris' twenty-five yard line, the Pakehas were awarded a free kick, O'Donnell taking a shot at goal from a few yards out from the touchline. His kick failed and the Maoris forced. The Pakeha team was again on the attack and a scrum resulted from a line-out on the Maoris' five-yard line. A free kick saved the position. Play moved up and down field until an infringement in a scrum on the Maoris' twenty-five line- gave the Pakehas a free kick, Pedersen's kick going outside the uprights. Halftime sounded without any out--•.tanding play and scoring account unopened. | The second half opened with the i Maoris 011 the attack and they were i "oressing about ten yards from the ! "'akehas' line when they became a i 'ittle over-anxious and a free kick ! was awarded against them. Play moved to half-way and a free kick vent to Pedersen, who found touc'h mside Maori ground. A penalty was awarded the Pakehas a few yards •hort of the twenty-five line, but O'Donnell's kick failed. Play con'inued without mcident, with Hakaraia and Galloway both failing to draw points from penalty kicks and the game concluded without score. Mr. Boyd was in charge of the I game.
