GREAT NORTHERN STEEPLES AUCKLAND, June 3. The Auckland Eacing Club's Winter Meeting was continued in fme weather, except for an early shower. The track was heavy. The totalisator liandled a New Zealand record suni of £263,705 againat £252,099 on the second day last year. Investments for the two days total £491,358 10s compared with £470,158 10s last year, an increase of £20,200. The atteadance was 43,000 against 36,000 the same day last .year. Our Nation won the Great Northern Steeplechase from end to end, Brookby Song being second 100 yards ahead of Abbey Lu. The favourite, Master Meruit when live lengths behind the winner fell at the first fence on the hili the last time. The favourites failed in evcry race and Susan- Lee, winner of the Carbine Plate, returned over a £100. New Battle tell at the last fence in the Steeplechase, breaking liis back and was destroyed.
