NEW OPEN-CAST MINE
TAUMARUNUI, May 30. . Work began today on the new o.pen-, cast coal mine at Retaruke, 1.2 miles from Na'fional Park. The eoal seams are located on a hillside over a large area. A Min.es Department report s'hows the eoal to be of .good -quality , sub-bituminofis, compariug favourably with other eoal -on the market. The firm operating the mine, E. H. M. Revell and Company, has acquired the most modern machinery and the manager expeets a small output of eoal during the next few weeks wi-th operations on a large scale soon. 'Ilomes for -employees are to be built next the mine. •
