Mr. D. H. Cockburn. of_ Queenstown, has announced his intention of standirig as a candidate for the vacancy as prodUcers' representative on the Meat Producers' Board caused by the impehding retirement of Mr. J. Begg. Appointed commander of the Devonport Naval Base, Auckland. Captain C. R. Pugh, R.N., arriVed at Wellington in the Rangitata yesterday. Captain Pugh belongs to the Fleet Air Arm. He served on aircraft-carriers for most of the war. Mr. R. B. Lusk, for 37 years judeto the Auckland Racing Club, and in his younger days a prominent athlete, has died in his 79th year. Mr. Lusk, who represented Auckland in Rugby representative match.es from 1886 to 1889, played against the British team whmh toured New Zealand in 1888. He was the last surviving member oi the team which played against New South Wales in 1886. Mr. Lusk, who was a barrister and solicitor, was also judge for the Takapuna Jockey Club and occupied the box at meetings at Gisborne, Trentham, Wanganui, Blenheim, Te Rapa, Te Aroha, Waipa, and Avondale.
