COAL STRIKE AVERTED

The threatened geueral coal strike in New South Wales may be averted at least teniporarily as tiie result of today 's coufeience between the Prime Ministev, Mr. ( 'hi.fiev, and- representatives of the Miners' Federation. Although it is uuderstood the Government made no proinises at todav's eo.nferenee, it is believed that the discussious liave persuaded the miners' delegates who were present_that a strike decisiori which was to liave been made ou Thursday, should be postponed until after the meeting of tiro full Cabinet on Juue 4. It is expected a strong reconiliiendation along these Jines will be made to the delegates at a meeting ot the .Miners' Central Council on Thursday.
