He dashed in through the smoke, lifted j the baby from his cot and rau with him j out into the backvard. Sereams from the boy soon attracted the attention of neighbours wlio then gave the alarni. Machines from the Central Fire Brigade : were at the liouse in less tlian three | mii'.utes. Firemen who were told tliat ; the baby was still in the front room, douned their speeial breathing apparatus and entered the room which was now blazing. Thev were then told that the boy had rescued his brother. The tiro was soon extinguished bnt the front rooms of the house were severely damaged.
