t The Feilding gelding, Battle Dance, ran a llnc race in the Stowards' Handicap at Te Rapa last Saturday, for he sueceeded in beating all but Verdant, and the latter is a di'ilicult horse to heal off over spriht distanccs. Tliird early, Battle Dance wcnt back a couple oi placcs, but finished strongly to occupy second place at the judge. The Battle Song gelding should run out a sound mile in the Hamilton Handicap tomorrow, and his showing should be a good guide to his prospects in the Cornwall Handicap at Ellerslie the foliowing week.
