LOCAL AND GENERAL
Personal Mr. Hamilton, wHo is still a patient at the Palmerston North Hospital, is reported to be progressing, *but it may' be yet some time before he 'is kble to return to Otaki. It is noli generally known that Major-Geiieral (then Brigadier-. General) Robert Yoimg C.B., C.M.G., D.S.O., of Otaki, was the leader of the New Zeaiandejfs in the Victory Paradc in London . in 1919. Major-Geheral Young recalls an amusing incidentv A choice of horses was offered the New Zealand ofRcers. He selected one after a preliminary canter in Hyde Park, but during the procession the horse, either because it missed moving a,longside other horses 01* for some reaspn of high spirits associated with the occasion, continued to give loud neighs at every opportunity. . At one stage in the prqcession, when the horse was particularly vocal, an old lady in the crowd .cried out, "Why don't you take" him home to his mother?" Later Major-General Young had the invitation to take part ' in a similar march in Paris but he chose to -stay • in England and see the. Grand National. Looking back he wonders to-day- if . he made the right choice. Major-General Young commanded the • 2nd- N.Z. Infantry Brigad'e- - in • France and later became G.O.C., New Zealand Military Forces, retiring in 1931. He came back during the. -recent war to be Director-General of the Home Guard. Major-General Young, wno will be. 70 this year, is living . in retireinent at Otaki. Food for Britain The dance drganised by thc Otaki Ladies' Guild and held at the Anglican HalT 011 Tuesday night, was even a greater success than the previous one.
