WHY RONGOTAI WHEN PARAPARAUMU ESTABLISHED?

WELLINGTON, May 22. Deveiopments in transport communications out of Wellington to the -north were mentioned by Mr W. I. J. Blyth i when the Wellington Harbour Board j was discussing the Rongotai Aerodrome j report at its meeting tonight. Mr. Blyth said the railway line would j be diverted to the west side of Porirua 1 Harbour and would cross the entrance | of that harbour to Plimmerton. The , tracks would he duplicated and the line ■ electrified. The highway along the old , railway line from Johnsonville to Tawa | Flat and Porirua would also he put j through. j He asked ifv after ali, they were con- ! vinced that Rongotai was the best proposal. Paraparaumu would he brought : v/ithin 40 minutes of Wellington. He i could not see there was any reason- in ! spending • £890,000 and displacing 246 | people from their homes when Para- • paraumu aerodrohie was already estabJ lished. | ' ' The Government has been very ac- | tive since this report was released,, I ; think we can expect its policy decision in the matter in a few days. I don't think Wellington will he disappointed, ' ' said Mr. W. Appleton, Mayor of Wellington, speaking as a meniber of the Harbour Board.,
