■WELLINGTON, Alay 21. I There were no further steps toward a i settlement of Ihe prodnee container disj ])ute today -afte-r the failure of tlie eonj .ference between the •par-ties on Alonday j afternoon. There was some talk rotnid j tlie marltets during the day, however, I whieh would suggest that a modificaj tion of the growers ' offer to the retailers — that tliey would instruet the -auctioneers not to charge for cont-ainers whieh did not roach a sfcandard of fair condition — miglit be the subject of further negot iations. It has been decided 1 j bv the retailers to protest to the Wel- ■ ; -liitgton City Council over the granting : of permits to growers for street de- • jpots. The atteution of tlie Couueil is to ha .drawn to tlie breaking 0f its otvn tby-laws in allowing tlie Aepots.
