NEED AGAIN EMPHASISE© The hope that interest would continue in the coupon savi.ng eampaign in Levin to assist Britainb parious food situation was expressed oy the Mayor (Mr. H. 33. Burdekin) , at a meeting of the Levin Borough iCouncil this week. His Worship drew attention to a •particularly , fine effort by the headmaster (Mr. H. F. McPlUhe),, st&ff and pupils of the Levin School, by which over 2000 meat coupons had oeen saved in one week. He added hi regard to meat coupons that he had been advised this week by 'the chairman of the New Zealand campaign (Mr. T. N-. Smallwood) that one million had now been saved. Mr. Burdekin said he had recently read- an article in an American publication, pointing .out that the people of Britain had withstood the lurmoil and food shortages attend - ant on the war for six long years. only to find that when hosti'lities ceased and they were .-entitled to expect that their food difficulties would diminish, the situation on the other hand seriously deteriorated. To-day they were not in a position to stand up to the strain of faetory work 011 their present rations, and it was up to the people of New Zealand to do all they couio to assist.
