PLAY IN KARAKAMEA CUP ' * • l Despite threatening weather ,conditions, another large assembly of men ;memb,ers gathered on the Levin1 Goif Club's links on Saturday afternoon for play in the Karakaroa' 'Cup and,'a bogey' match in conjunctiori therewith. Practically all the "first . round ' games in ' the former comp'etition were fiiialised with no surprise result's eventuating. The bogey match resulted in a tie. between four players,'-R .A. Frederikso'n winning the c'ount back from J. Si. .Dickinson1," J. N. Sams and H, Bull and all finishing with the score of one down. Next Week's Fixture The first round of the Nicholson Cup is to be played next Suturday afternoon,' the draw being at the usual time of 1.5 p.m: For the benefit of any member who has uot participated in play for the above trophy the conditions of play are briefly given. Early advice before the draw coi.aniences will not, theref ore, aff ect the smooth running of any conjunctional round that may also be played King's Birthday Tourney As previously inentioned, the Levin club is enjoying a boom membership and members are daily increasing. To cater for nearly 100 men players -with the season's play now in iufi swing, it was f elt that full benefit of the long week-end jover the King's Birthday holid-ays should be taken advantage of, and ia sub-committee was appointed to iproceed; with arrangements and draw up a programme for a tournament on June 1 and 2. This has now been finalised, and given favourable weather conditions a most enjoyable tourney should be in store for all those who participate. Tournaments will also be held by i the Otaki and Buckley Clubs so that district golfers will have a variety of links to choose from for actual play. The entry list for intending contestants for the local tcrurnament is now posted on the notice board in the club-house, and entries close on Wednesday, May 29. Post entries are also being received for those players who desire to enter„:for the tournament play or any single event. • - The following is a brief schedule of the programme decided upon by Jthe appointed committee: — Morn|ing: 18 hole medal handlcap, the first best eight gross scores in this event to play off for the main event, the King's. Birthday handicap. The second best eight "gross scores ts play off for the Kings prlze. The remainder of the3 contestants to be divided in groups of eight, according to handicap, and to play off in flights. All matches are to be played over 18 holes and a teams match will be played in conjunction' with event No. " 1 during the -morning's play, four players to each team, with best aggregate nett score counting. Saturday: afternoon: The first round of the King's Birthday handicap, the first round of the King's prize and the first round of all flights will all be played. A
bogey -match for all contestants will be played in conjunetion with the above. Sunday morning. June 2: Semifinals of both handicap events and flights, together with an 18 hole Stableford competition in conjunction. Sunday afternoon: Final of all events., over, 18 holes, together with a four-ball' best ball bogey match, players being drawn for . partners. As a good entry is expected and only a few days are available to complete the running of a successful - tournament, the match. committee asks that all intending players duly signify their intention of playing by attaching their . names on the entry list. Inter-Club Game Some 26 players from the Gtaki Club paid their first visit of the present season during the weekend, when they met the Levin Club in an enjoyable singles and fouroall match. After many close games, the visitors proved too strong for the home side, winning by 19 matches to 13, with seven halved. As this is the first occasion in which the Otaki side have ever beaten Levin on the latter's links, the visitors were naturally elated at the results of their combined efforts; Following are the results of the matches • played with the • Levin players being mentioned first in each instance: — .
