c'ersonal. M13S Margaret Lawrle left to-day to spend a holiday in Napier. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Reynolds, after a brief stay in Otaki, have returned to Wanganui. Mr. J. M. Grifflths, who assisted in the secretarlal work at the Otaki rac&s, returned to Wellington yesterday afternoon. Lindsay, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stan Merwood, was on Saturday mornmg admitted to the Palmerston North Hospital and on Saturday night was operated on for appendic.itis, Lindsay is reported to be making good progress. bporting Centre Nearly thirty- Olaki-trained horses accepted for the Otaki races on Saturday. Several were successful, thus reflecting credlt on the abiiities of the trainers. Sports Dance The combmed sports dance, held at the-1 Railway Hall on Friday night, proved very enjoyable and was weii attended. It Is considered that the number of cars was in excess of the large majonty of other meetings held locally. Flre Alarnis In the event of fire In Otaki during the perlod of an electricity cutoti anyone wishing to give an alarm is asked to immediately communicate with the telephone exchange, when power will be temporarily restored. Money Missed As the result of the enquiry at the Otaki races on Saturaay and ihe heavy showers it is considered that about £6000 to £7000 was lost to the totalisator. However, the sum of £61,131 10s was put through "ohe totalisator, as against the sum of £38,321 10s for the last winter meeting in 1944. Mishap in Otaki On Saturday evenlng a car which had pulled up to the kerbing near the Civic Theatre was struck by another car, with the result that the mudguard of the stationary car was torn off. The other car failed to stop, and the police are now investigating with a view to taking action. Accident Near Te Iloro On Saturday morning shortly after 10.30 a car driven by. Mr. kmg, of Wellington, and a truck driven by Mr. Bowen, also of Wellington, were involved in an accident near Te Horo. Mr. King's car pulled up suddenly to avoid a car in front of him, with the result that the truck ran into Mr. King's car. Miss Ngaire Bowen was thrown from the truck and suffered injuries to her f'ace, Dr. Atmore having •to insert three stitches in the wound. The truck had to be towed away by a break-down wagon", but thc car was only sliglitly damaged.
