MAORI ON THEFT CHARGE

CASE IN LEVIN COURT George Tahu Royal, a M.aori, of no fixed abode, appeared before Messrs G. Sweetman and D. J. Gp,rdiner, J.'sP., in the Levin Court on Friday last. He was charged with the theft of a battledress blopse and wallet, the property of Matahaere Patuaka," at Ohau, on April 27. Sergeant Grainger said ■ tfiat Royal had been involved in a quarrel with his relatives and left the house, taking the blouse and wallet jwith him. The blouse had been reS covered, but the wallet had evidentjly been thrown away. Accused was 66 years of age and was in receipt of an old age Denefit. In consideration of the defendant's age, he was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence within twelve months if called upon.
