AUCKLAND, May 17. The five-dav dispute between Auckland growers and retailers of fruit and vegetables, over the pavment of container cliarges, ended when both sides reached a teinporarv settlement todav. At the suggestion of the Mayor, Mr. J. A. C. Alluni. who presided over a meeting in the Town Hall, of representatives of both parties, it was agreed that the growers and retailers would each pay lialf'the cost of the container .cliarges until an early conferenee could l)e arranged in Wellington at which representatives of the Dominion organisations of growers and retailers, would endeavour to come to a permanent agreement. Norraal selling of produce wili be resumed in the city markets tomorrow and fruit and vegetables will be on sale in the shops in ihe raorning. A special auction will be lield in the markets at 7 a.m. when muc.li of the .produce that has acc.uraulated will be disposed of. The chief eifect of the dispute on city fruiterers 'this wTeek has been the shortage of green vegetables. Today most shops liad none. The deadlock did not last long euough to effect the supply of fruit and other vegetables as most retailers had an accumulation on hand but even these stocks would not have lasted far beyond the weekend. Green vegetables will remain in short supply for a few days until stocks build up again at the markets.
