LEFT THEIR HEARTS IN AUSTRALIA
Received Thursdav, 7 p.m. SYDNEY, May 16.' Four naval ratings dlved forty feet from the battleship Duke of York into the -harbour at. Woolloomooloo just before tlie ship sailed. The battleship, which is the flagship of the Britisu Pacilic Fleet, was farewelled. bv over a tliousand persons including many weeping women, wlien she left for Britain via Hong Korig. The first man diveu from Ihe bow and as he struggled to. the wharf, was followed by a second. As he was being escorted back up tlie gangwav the first man broke away from the escort and dived between the ship and the wharf sustaining cuts -on the faee. Two other ratings 011 the deck ainidships then also went overboard. All were escorted back to the ship by naval police. Soon after orders to dress ship for leaving the harbour, ratings started to hurl caps to girl friends 011 the wharf. The battleship moved into the stream leaving scores of caps bobbing in its wake.
