^1 Is New Zealancl being left bchiiul in atliletics? This question was asked by a prominent administrator this week. He elaborated as follows: — Australia has been invited to send a team of athlctes to Bouth Africa; there is a strong possibility of an English team touring America. hloreover, tlie English authorities, in order to providc tlieir athlctes- with pre-Olympic practice, are aiming to send tlieir men across to Europe for competition there. New Zealand is. said to have written Australia, England, South Africa, and America to ascertain wliat chanccs there are of athlctes visiting the Dominion. So far as is known 110 replies have been receivcd. From the point ot: vicw of publie appeal the Americans, of course, have always proved the most popular in New Zealand.
