PARCHMENT MADE BUTTER INEDIBLE

A story about some puTcliiucnt given to the Nevv Zealand Government by tlic Canadiau Government under mutual aid and sold to dairy companies for use in wrapping buttcr, and tlien banncd by the Government bccause of its eil'eet on tlic buttcr, was told to the Dairy Ward conferonco at Christchurch by Mr. C. F. Agar. Uc eoniplained that for two years dairy companies had been trviiig without succcss to gct a settlement with tlic Government. Mr. Agar said iiis compauy liad put some of the parcliment iato use as soon as it ar rived. Complaints about the quality oi the buttcr followed and it was found to be tallowy and inedible. The factory inanager suggested. that tlic parcbment was at faull but this was hardly eredited until it was found that other factories had had the same* troublo. Tlien Ihe Government instructed that the parcliment was not suitable for packing buttcr. Mr. Agar said thero was a lilucarly an inch thiek on the subject but a settlemont with the Government could not be reached. Ilis compauy had pahi about £2000 for the parcliment which the Government had rceeived for notiiiug. Dairy companies could not seno the parchinont back to Can ada where it did not cause troublo beeause, as f« mutual aid commodity, it could not go through tlic ordiuary mcrchaudising chaunels. Ho hopcd the Board would press tho Government for a scttlemcnt.
