Some good schooling was witnessed over the steeplechase fences and particularly good efforts went to the eredit of Authoressj Gay Kouen" and Golonel Bogey. The course proper, Avith the pegs out 50ft., was available for galloping, the going being very slow. Paper 13111 and Tikalight took 58sec. for half a mile, the last three furlongs in 43. Areo and Winning Ticket were let off with an easy i'ound, averaging 15see. to the furlong. They were booked to leave for Te Eapa last night. After running the flrst tAvo in 29sec., Prefa was being eased at the conclusioii of five furlongs in 1.13. The Croupier gelding looks arery well and is to race at Otaki on Saturday. Dileas strode over seven furlongs in 1.42. He looks none the worse for his racing at Hawera and will be 011 hand for Otaki. Eoto Parera and Man's Pride covered five furlongs in 1.14. Sir Bradbur ywas travelling easily alongsicle Pellmeer at the .end of a similar distance in 1.13 1-5, the first two being run in 29 2-5sec. Blanket traversed a round, the last five furlongs occupying 1.16 4-5. He appears to have settled down, and would only require to reproduce his track efforts to have excellent prospects at Otaki. • Young Margaret Pleases. Golden Tide, Avko is beginning to assume rucing shape, rau the last five furlongs of a round in 1.15 1-5. She has been schooling soundly and is not without prospects in a weak liurdle field at Waverley. Young Margaret beat Airpier by three lengths over five furlongs in 1.11 3-5. The former carried a good weight and it was the best efl'ort of the morning. Kinlc, Avho displays some aptitude as a jumper, got to the cnd of six furlongs iu 1.27. Theiolyn, who did not handio the going too well, took 1.15 2-5 for five furlongs. Broderie Avas much too good for First King over a mile, the last seven furlongs being run in 1.46 1-5. The former handled tlie going in great stylo and may sliow up at Otaki. Ngakoti reoied off three furlongs in 40seo. Tlie brother Lo The Duzer made a promising debut at Hawera iast week when he aeted as runner-up to Mercian Lad in Ihe Nursery Handicap and will make liis next appearance at Waverley on Saturday. imperial, who has fresheued up since racing at Ellerslie at Easter, pieased by the manner in Avhich he got to the end of five furlongs in 1.11 2-5. Oemo and a Nightly gelding sprinted half -a mile along the back m 56 l-5sec., the latter sliaping very well for a uovice. lndian Sign Avorked keenJy over a round aL three-quarter pace. However, tlie Waikato Steeples candidate avus slightly lame after wards and his prospects of standiug much racing do not look bright. Stablemates Jump Well. Over eight steeplechase fences 011 the course proper, 'Mokauui (Freda Wliite; outjumped Speed King (Kouse) at every fence to give a spieudid exliibition.- The stablemates Gay Kouen (Andrews) aud Colonei Bogey (Hastie) were assoeiated over 12 steeplechase fences 011 the inside. Both gave afaultless display aud there was not|uug between theiu at the fiuisJi. A. Wright 's pair appear to doiiiinatc the field in thc Waverley Steeples on Saturday. Giving a dashing display, Autlioress (Hastie) outclassed Moderate (Bowry) in a schooling bout over seven steeplechase fences. The former is engagcd in the Hack and Hunters' Steeples at Otaki and will have plenty of friends.
