FOUR SHIPS CHARTERED FOR COASTAL TRADE

WELLINGTON, May 13. Four overseas ships — three "British and oue Anierican — have been chartered for the New Zoaland eoastal trade. The Minister of Industries and Commerce, Hon. D. G. Hullivan, said tonight that following his representations to tlie Ministry of War Transport, the ships had been made available to assist in relieving tlie difficult position that had ariseu in New Zealand ports. The ships are the Ramstrae, Empire Dominican, Bamythian and Catspaw. The Minister said the Samstrae was now loading in Auckland for the Routh Island. The Empire Dominican wliicli was in New Zealand waters, would be placed on the coast later in the month vvhen she had completed the discliarge of her eargo. Tlie Samythian was due in New Zealand but unfortunately had been lield up as a result of the waterfront dispute in Australia. In addition to these three British vessels, the Anierican ship Catspaw had been cliartered and was already doing valuable work on the coast. Mr, Suilivan said that although these
