Memorial Unveiled

Two thousand Maons representing North Island tribes attended a hui at Muriwai, Gisborne, marking the unveiling of_a monument to the late Mr. H. R. H. B'aineavis, who for 30 years Was ministerial private secretary of the MihiSter of Native Affairs, HOh. H. G. It. Mason paid tribute to Mr, Balneavis's^r.eOord in an official Capacity stating his ter'm was one of the longest in the Dominion, and also his interest as secretary of the Maori Ethnological Board, Board of Maori Arts, and Polynesian Society. He also Iaifded his services to golf and rugby. "It is fitting that the tribes Shotild have erected this memorial but I believe that Mr. Balneavis Will have another and more lastihg memorial thaft this stone in the inspiration he has left for the Maori youth," said Mr. Mason.
