HORSES SHOWING PROMISE

• Voltaire with 11.9 will be hard to beat in the.Manawapau Hurdles, as he showed good stamina last Saturday and came home like a preal batten topper. The Otaki hurdleman-, E. Baker, has a promising hurdler in his carej and if he fulfils his promises he will be in demand for oigger events this season. Epping is returning to steeplechiasing, and it will be interesting to see how he makes out. He ran several good races last season and> might have filled many a place role had he not fallen. He \is a good jumper, but age is'slowly taking hold, and it is doubtjful whether he will see the season out. Foreign Coin, who is an acceptor for Eglnont and Carterton, is expected to run a good race, ^.nd his record foiC his last three starts over hurdles now reads, two wins and one second. He is nominated for the Great -Northern events, and by the form he has shown so far ohis season may be entitled to some consideration. The hardy mare, Cressida, who has- been one of the most unlucky of the season, having to be content with place money, is entered for the Shorts Hack Handicap, and as the field is not very strong she is given an excellent opportunity to prove her capabilities. Tideless, known as Taranaki's best sprinter, is weighted with 8.8 m the sprint. He has run some good races lately and his turn is due. The Mokaia Handicap will be a hard race to pick from as the field is nearly all of the same class. Alright and Black Plato will appeal a great deal, as both have been olaced in recent races. Breezalong, which' ran third at his last start when he was lame, vill not be passed by this week. With 8.11 he will go close to it if he does not win. Restriction has let down his supporters recently, but it would not be wise to give him up, as this horse has good possibilities. He is weighted with 7.7 in the Tonks Memorial. The chief hurdle event draws a mall but high class field nf jumpn*s, with Red Glare heading the weight. Red Glare has done good Grack work and he will take a lot of beating. Political Boy has every chance of winning the double', and it would not'surprise his supporters as he is still an improving horse. It is rumbured that he is the find of the sea;on. It looks like Derryogue- and Young Kent fighting out the Davidson Memorial. Both are fit and are at present at the top of their form. Last week's winner Peter's Choice is not expected to win again but if form is correct, he will be in the firing line at the finish, although he hardly ever wins consecutively. Prince Wanaka has plenty of speed and the Borough Hack Handicap may prove his testing ground. Big things are in store for ihis gelding. Chef d'Oeuvre would only have to repeat last %eek's form to be dangerous. ( ,- PROSPECTS FOR TO-MORROW Manawapbu Hurdles (about 13 (uriongs) .-TForeign Coin, Voltaire, Epping.
